What to Expect When Installing a New HVAC System in Harrisonburg, VA

Installing a new HVAC system in your home in Harrisonburg, VA can be a long, laborious and intricate process. To help you prepare for this event properly, we’d like to provide you with at least a rough idea of what will likely happen once the HVAC installation team arrives. Here’s some information about what you can expect when investing in a new HVAC installation.

Clearing Out Space

When the time comes to install your new HVAC system, HVAC technicians will show up at your home with the various HVAC components and tools. They will also need to remove your old system. Since these things are quite arduous, the technicians will require a fair bit of free space to operate.

That means before the work begins, it’s a wise move to prepare your home for the installation. Above all, you should create as many clear and open paths leading into, out, of and through your home as possible.

First, move all large pieces of furniture out of your hallways and away from the entrances of rooms. If possible, move your car out of your driveway and park it somewhere else for the duration of the installation. Finally, if you have pets or small children, try to ensure that they don’t run around the home or you could send them to stay with a trusted friend or family member while the work is being done.

Removing the Old System

Once your home is ready and the installation team arrives, the first order of business will be to take out your old HVAC system. The first step to accomplishing that will be for the team to place cloth, plastic or some other kind of covering over the floors of your home. This covering will catch any debris that happens to fall onto your floor during installation day, which will prevent your floors from getting dirty and ultimately make post-installation cleanup much easier.

After this, the team will proceed to remove your old HVAC system. They will turn the system off, extract the refrigerant it uses and then take out the remaining components. Depending on whether or not you’ve chosen to replace your previous system with a ductless mini-split system, you may also want your old ductwork removed.

Beginning the Installation

After your old system is gone, our technicians will bring in the parts of your new system. They will situate and set up both the outdoor and indoor components of the new system and connect them. They will also hook up all of the relevant electrical wiring, which will require them to have easy and unobstructed access to the electrical panel in your home.

If your new system uses ducts, our technicians will need to either install new ducts or connect your system to your old ones. If the heating portion of your new HVAC system runs on gas, they will need to install a gas line or connect the one you already have to your new system. Lastly, our installers will need to fill your air conditioning system with the appropriate amount of refrigerant.

This is not necessarily a complete list of everything that installers will need to do when setting up your new system, but what we’ve said should give you enough information to understand how the process will unfold. All in all, installation will likely take anywhere from several hours to the majority of the day. The more adequately you prepare your home, the less time it will probably take.

Testing

Finally, once everything is in position, the installation team must run a few tests to ascertain whether the new system can function as you need it to. This may be an ideal time to establish a long-term agreement for maintenance services.
